Parish Hall Fundraising

In order to finance the refurbishment of the Cathedral Parish Hall, the parish had to take out a loan of £480,000 from the diocese. This is now gradually being paid back.

By the end of March 2010 David Worsfold and the Fundraising Committee had brought the grand total raised to £258,000 leaving £192,000 still to be collected.

Among the many events organised by David and the committee in the last year was another evening of stylish entertainment at Ingatestone Hall with the title of Tennyson and The Victorians.

More recently, there was the highly successful production of Benjamin Britten's opera for children, Noye's Fludde, which raised over £1500. The opera, which was performed over three evenings in the Cathedral, brought together hundreds of people, especially children, involving many groups from both within and without the Parish.

Many fundraising events are planned for 2010

This year's Music & Poetry Evening at Ingatestone Hall will take place on Friday 21 May when the theme will be Spring into Summer. For tickets please contact David Worsfold or telephone 01277 221445.

During the rest of 2010 there will be two more of our popular Quiz Nights, the next one being on Wednesday 12 May.

Please start saving your five-pence pieces because on Sunday 4 July, we hope to cover Mr Noah's Ark with our Mile of 5ps; while on Saturday 23 October we will be enjoying the annual Parish Race Night.

Towards the end of the year two very different but suitably seasonal events will take place, the first being the Cathedral Christmas Bazaar on Saturday 20 November.

The second of these special events to be held on Saturday 11 December will be a reprise of last year's Singalong Messiah. This will be a fantastic opportunity for anyone and everyone to contribute to one of the greatest peices of choral music ever written, Handel's Messiah. This concert to be held in the Cathedral will allow you to sing your heart out in the company of a professional orchestra and top-grade soloists.

Details of all these events are regularly posted in the Parish Newsletter, which is also available online.

Half-Marathon Man 2010 !

dw

David's enthusiasm for the Parish Hall Fund knows no bounds, even to the extent of taking part in the Annual Brentwood Fun-Run and Marathon.

He manfully completed the Half-Marathon and raised yet more money for the Hall Fund.

Perhaps next year we should all sponsor him to lie down and think sweet thoughts for an hour or so, instead of causing possible stress to his all-important knees!
